Christmas Eve Meal made for Ultimate Masculinity

Christmas Eve Meal made for Ultimate Masculinity

This year, I've made more of an effort to punctuate holidays -- especially Thanksgiving and Christmas -- with special meals. Food plays a big role in these holidays and their traditions; I set out to prove that you can still enjoy the food while on the path to Ultimate Masculinity.

In the Coach Harry household, historically, we have had a familial tradition of "sausage and peppers." Since I've been vegan, I've eaten Impossible, Beyond Meat, or similar imitation meat sausages. These fake meats are highly processed and nutritionally similar to meat - not conducive to Ultimate Masculinity. This Christmas I decided to make my own, whole food, plant-based sausage replacement.

Because of the fennel and other spices, the recipe I cooked made a patty that had a flavor very reminiscent of a "real" sausage. The coconut aminos gave a gentle sweetness and the red chili peppers gave it the iconic heat of an Italian sausage. However, because the bulk of the sausage was crumbled tempeh, and tempeh is a fermented, whole soy bean, the sausage had a bean burger-type texture, rather than the expected texture of a sausage. Next time I make it, I'll use a food processor to pulse the tempeh into smaller crumbles and probably use tofu additionally to improve on the texture.
