Coach Harry's Reading List

If you're interested in learning more about the topics behind Ultimate Masculinity, here are some of the books that Coach Harry has read and recommends:

Nutrition

Eat for Life, Joel Fuhrman, MD.  --- This book is a great introduction to whole food, plant-based (WFPB) diets. Dr. Fuhrman has coined the term "nutritarian" for his particular version of the diet.

The China Study, T. Colin Campbell, PhD. --- One of the preeminent sources on plant-based eating. This foundational study demonstrates the benefits of eating WFPB.

How Not to Die, Michael Greger, MD. --- This tome details many of the causes of death in modern society; most of them are chronic disease that can be ameliorated with a healthy diet!

How Not to Age, Michael Greger, MD. --- Similar to How Not to Die, this book explains some strategies to potentially get healthier as you age.

Food

Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan. --- A fascinating insight into humans and our relationship with food. It will definitely make you appreciate the food you put into your mouth more!

Food Rules, Michael Pollan. --- A sub-100 page book with a rule about how to eat on each page. It's not a hard-line WFPB approach, but interesting and helpful nonetheless.

Animal, Vegetable, Junk, Mark Bittman. --- Similar to Omnivore's Dilemma, in that it is an analysis of what we eat, it takes a broader, more cultural perspective in its analysis.

Honorable Mention: Cooked, Michael Pollan. --- This book isn't really directly related to "Ultimate Masculinity," but it is related to food and our relationship with it. It's also Coach Harry's favorite book ever.

Fitness

The 4 Hour Body, Tim Ferriss. --- The fitness advice tends to be good and very thought-provoking in that it challenges a lot of conventional exercise wisdom. The nutrition advice is not WFPB-compliant, but some of the concepts are sound

Running

Born to Run, Christopher McDougall. --- Part human-interest piece, part how-to-run guide, this book popularized the concept of barefoot running. It's guaranteed to inspire you to try running (again) and have fun while you do it.
